| Country |
With its over 1.2 million sq km, Peru is one of the biggest countries of
South America. The countryside could hardly be more diverse: The coastal
region, dry and in many places desert, the plateau of the Andes with its snowy
mountains, over 6,000 m in height, as the Huascaran, and the region of the
Amazon with its tropical jungle. The most memorable sights of a journey through
Peru are certainly the Ballestas islands, with sea lions and penguins, the
mysterious Nazca figures and the former Inca sites around the Machu Picchu. Or
how about a survival course in the Amazon region, near Iquitos? |
| Climate |
Due to the most varied regions, different climatic zones prevail: heat and
drought dominate in the coastal regions, whereas humidity and heat characterise
the Amazon basin. The dry season lasts from April to October, while in the
rainy season, regular precipitation as well as a hot and humid climate has to
be expected. On the Andes plateau, pleasant daytime temperatures with rather
cooler night-time temperatures predominate. Here the rainy season lasts from
November to April, with dry mornings and some rain in the afternoon. |
