Havana: Mirtha Aguirre

Country Cuba, the largest of the Caribbean islands lies only 145 km south of Florida. It is not only famous for its historic past, but also for its beauty: Fantastic beaches in the north, kilometres of sugar-cane plantations in the heart of the country, the old colonial Havana with its narrow lanes. Despite the difficult living conditions, the more than 11 million inhabitants of the island have not lost their zest for life. Cuba offers its people the best medical care in whole Latin America and provides it free of charge.
Climate The north western winds have a cooling effect on the country. Average temperatures in Havana can reach 30° Celsius. The best time to visit Cuba is from November to April, as this is a time of relatively scarce rain.
Entry regulations For a stay of up to 60 days, travellers from most western countries only require a passport valid for at least a further six months plus a tourist permit, which you can obtain for a handling fee at the Cuban embassy or from us. US citizens need a special permit from the US Department of Treasury in order to travel legally to Cuba (see http://www.state.gov/www/regions/wha/cuba/travel.html)
