Country Colombia covers around 1.1 Mio km2 and is the fourth-biggest country of South America. More than 41 Mio inhabitants live here, distributed over the whole country with it's versatile countrysides. Wonderful beaches in the North, numerous colonial towns around Bogota, the tropical jungle at the Amazonas near Leticia or the Andes are only a few of the numerous sights of the country. The country's bad reputation (Guerilla, drug trafficking) shouldn't put people off. By looking at things closer you'll find out quickly that Colombia isn't that much more dangerous than it's neighbour countries. Off the dangerous zones, Colombia is a beatiful country to visit.
Climate In each of the different regions of the country (the highlands of the Andes, the north coast, the jungle) there are different climatical conditions. Because the country is situated close to the equator you don't note any bigger seasonal differences. Best time to visit the country is during the dry months of December to April, although it is no problem to visit the country throughout the whole year.
Entry regulations For a stay of up to 90 days, travellers from most western countries only require a passport valid for at least a further six months. Details are available from the nearest embassy or from us.
Currency Colombian Peso: 10'000 Pesos = US$ 3.98 (as of 1st Dec. 2004)
Vaccinations none mandatory; for tropical regions and jungle, malaria prophylaxis is recommended.
Security Please check with your department of foreign affairs about their security recommendations.
